Over the past few weeks, I've had numerous conversations with older teens and young adults who are heading off to college. Some are confused, uncertain and stressed about their direction as they head into their freshman year. Some.are heading into their second. third year and even fourth year ... studying in a field that no longer excites or even interests them, but uncertain about what they'd rather be doing instead. In every single one of these conversations, parents are mentioned. Whether it's not wanting to disappoint their parents, or not wanting their parents to butt in, or not wanting to pursue the career their parents want for them or feeling guilty about how much money their parents are spending on college when they have no clear idea of what they're doing or what direction to take. Is your teen or young adult trying to find purpose in life? Feeling anxious, afraid or uncertain about their future? Experiencing a lack of confidence about the choices they are making about their future? Resistant to your help? Perhaps experiencing physical manifestations of their psychological stress? Coaching can be so helpful in all of these situations. Coaching helps teens and young adults connect with their passion and purpose, learn how to set goals, develop action plans and provide accountability to help them stay focused and on track. Coaching provides tips, tools and techniques to deal with fear and stress while improving skills, confidence and self esteem ... a recipe for success! Coaching can be done either in person or over the phone and can be arranged conveniently around your students' schedule. It’s a full hour that is broken up into three 20-minute sessions:
Some of you may be thinking ... 20 minutes of exercise isn't enough! I usually do at least hour long workouts to get maximum benefit. If that's what you're doing, then great! However be sure to balance it with reading and meditation to maximize the effect on your personal power. Keep in mind that an accountability partner or a coach can help create new habits to support your growth and support your success. Check out this article by Jack Canfield for more information: Tools for Success: Hour of Power As I prepare for the arrival of Irene, life gets right down to the basics ... water, food, shelter and connecting with loved ones. I'm home for the duration of the storm. I decide to take advantage of electricity while it lasts and do some reading. I head to the bookshelf right next to the easy chair to pick a title to settle in to.
Lately my world has been full of work ... dealing with budget issues and program cuts and financial juggling. Transition is a funny thing. It can either be a chaotic experience based on fear and met with resistance or an intriguing and inviting adventure met with an open heart and a willingness to explore new pathways. A book catches my eye. It's been there for quite some time and has never been opened, but today it speaks to me. And I listen. The 21 Day Consciousness Cleanse: A Breakthrough Program for Connecting with Your Soul's Deepest Purpose by Debbie Ford I do what I often do when I pick up a new book. I flip through the pages and let the book tell me what to read first ... as if a message is waiting. And it is. Consider with me the following discussion of ego and soul, excerpted from the book " ... but the journey must begin by choosing between two forces: one has the power to lead you to new heights; the other can keep you pinned down to a past that is filled with limitation and dread. Don't be fooled. You are living either an ego-driven life or one that is soul-centered. The soul discerns with laser-like sharpness. The ego judges and rejects with disdain and aggressiveness. The soul takes responsibility. The ego blames and transfers responsibility. The soul moves through life with grace. The ego moves through life with recklessness, chaos and drama. The soul feels good about who it is and what it wants and needs to sustain itself, to grow and evolve. The ego never has enough; it can never leave well enough alone or see beyond the current circumstances. It is entitled, confused and feels stuck. The ego tirelessly swims against the current, while the soul sits back and floats in the direction that life is moving in. You're either being guided by your soul or driven by your ego. Right now there is a full range of experience and emotion that is available to you. You can be burdened by fear, sadness and suffering as you struggle against your perceived flaws, limitations and outer obstacles ... or vibrating at a high level of consciousness, where the world and every one in it are as they should be. Where you easily see possibilities and solutions, even if they look very different from what you would have expected. Naturally in the flow, passionately determined to make the most of your life ... at peace with how you are, even if there are changes to make and problems to solve." ~Debbie Ford, The 21 Day Consciousness Cleanse: A Breakthrough Program for Connecting with Your Soul's Deepest Purpose. Wow ... perfect for me today in light of what's happening in my life. And so today's the perfect day to curl up, whether by lamplight or candlelight, with a cup of tea and furry friends ... and with the help of Debbie Ford, putting ego to rest and connecting with my soul Where are you in your process? Ego or soul? Or some of both? And what can you do to expand your soul, make the changes there are to make and solve the problems there are to solve? I love this idea! Giving thanks and expressing gratitude literally changes our attitude, our relationships and our lives!
I'm going to do this ... how about you? Thanks Giving Challenge by Success Magazine There is no doubt that our environments affect our energy. When most of us think about environments, we think about physical environments ... the places where we live, work and play.
According to Jim Bunch, founder of The Ultimate Game of Life, we have 9 environments that affect our attitude, our well being and ultimately our success in life. The environment I'd like to focus on today is our relationship environment, which includes the people we spend the most time with. The article below suggests an activity that will help you identify who you spend your time with and whether they are a positive or negative influence on your energy and thus your life. When I first did this exercise at Breakthrough to Success, I was a bit surprised to realize that a couple of the people I loved the most were on my list of negative influences. At BTS, Jack Canfield went on to reveal his own list. His mother was on the top of his negative list! Certainly a dilemma, however, Jack outlined a strategy to help minimize the impact of negative people in our lives, even family members, and begin helping us make the shift to more positive influences that will ultimately support our growth and success. Today, I have been pretty successful making the shift and expanding the positive influences in my life. My changes included a decision to end a significant relationship as well as incorporating a simple strategy to put some limits around one particular relationship with a person who approaches life negatively. The results have been amazing ... not only in the way I feel, but in the people I've set limits with or have completely let go of! I have this conversation alot with teens ... and it's amazing to see their awareness shift as they begin to make changes in who they choose to spend their time with and how their energy and their lives begin to shift. Check out this article to assess your own relationships and learn how to shift to more positive connections! And then, share it with the teens in your life! You Are Who Your Friends Are I love this article by Jack Canfield titled Are You Living Your Passion?
Do yourself a favor and take some time to do the two exercises Jack suggests. I was fortunate to have done them in a live training with Jack awhile back. The exercises are a great way to get connected to your passion and life purpose. The process is also the perfect place to start developing your goals and action plans that are in line with your purpose and will lead to you to joy and fulfillment! I am grateful for the experience of going through the process with Jack and having the opportunity to watch him living his own passion and purpose while inspiring others to do the same. And I am grateful for my Mastermind Group, my coach and my support system who all help me continue taking action along my purposeful path! The path is not always clear, what's before me or inside of me doesn't always make sense and I'm not always certain about what's next, however being clear about my passion and purpose for being on the planet always provides insight and direction that leades me to the next right step! http://www.jackcanfield.com/blog/item/1044-are-you-living-your-passion.html Another golden nugget coming at you from Jack Canfield's Breakthrough to Success via Sean Smith, Success Coach.
As Sean says, building new habits requires making a choice, making an effort and requires repetition. I would also suggest that engaging the power of the subconscious mind, i.e. using hypnosis as an adjunct, is a powerful way to accelerate change and get past old habits and break behavior patterns quickly. That's why the combination of coaching and hypnosis works so well and produces fast results. It's amazing how the energy from BTS continues to live on in my heart and soul and in my daily life and how the transition and transformation toward living on purpose continues! Here's one of my favorite nuggets from one of Jack's Success Coaches, Sean Smith. He shares the wisdom found in the music of Jana Stanfield ... the official musician of BTS. She calls herself the Queen of Heavy Mental ... and for very good reason! I've adopted this song into my daily life as well as the work I do with both adults and teens: See Sean's BTS Golden Nugget here. I've been connected to an academic schedule for many years, so September has always been like New Year's for me. Back to school, back to work and on to a new year full of possibilities!
This week is Breakthrough to Success week with Jack Canfield. Although I wasn't able to be at the event this year, I am certainly there in spirit! Thanks to Facebook, I am connected to the event and it's attendees and getting nuggets of great stuff I'll be sharing with you as well. In preparation for the fall, and in honor of my BTS experience, I've been tending to my environments. I first learned about the concept of our 9 environments at BTS from Jim Bunch. I've done quite a bit of work on my environments since returning from BTS and teach it to my clients as well, however, I find it helpful to revisit my environments on a regular basis. Particularly my relationships, physical home and office environments, which can very easily expire me if I don't keep them clear! This year brings big changes to my work and my business. I have a couple of tremendous opportunities that will level up my work and my life as it relates to my passion, my life purpose and the people I serve. I'm so excited and grateful and look forward to giving it my all. And in preparation, I've been working on clearing my environments so that I meet my new opportunities with focus and clarity. Over the weekend, I did a Tolerations and Irritations List in my physical environment which includes my home office and living space. I've been spending some time prioritizing the list, chunking it down, taking action and getting things done! I already feel more clear, more focused and more productive ... all of which are a set up for success! Thanks to Jim Bunch and Jack Canfield for teaching me about the importance creating environments that inspire rather than expire me! Read more about clearing clutter in your environments and download your own Irritations and Tolerations Worksheet at: http://www.jackcanfield.com/blog/item/996-clearing-clutter-increases-success.html I'm just coming back from being mostly "unplugged" for the past week ... spending lots of time with family and friends in some of my favorite places doing the simple things that rejuvenate my energy , renew my faith, reignite my spark, reconnect me to my passion and purpose and reenergize me to return refreshed and ready to focus on the next right step toward my vision!
As difficult as it is sometimes to unplug my phone and computer and leave voicemail and email for another time, there is nothing like it. I love the freedom of unstructured days spent exploring whatever comes next ... wandering through the woods, in the mountains, connecting with those I love while fully experiencing the natural surroundings that were created by a power way beyond me. I love being in a place of full awareness of the present moment. In a place of gratitude, peace and acceptance that all is well and that all that went before has brought me to the very moment I am now enjoying. I especially love it when some of those moments include sharing an ice cream cone with someone who enjoys it as much as I do! Over the past couple of years, I have experienced profound clarity and monumental transformation in the midst of some of the greatest pain I can remember. The challenges, both personally and professionally, that have taught me how to face fear head on, how to take risks, how to trust my gut and follow my heart and how to take action to support my vision. The lessons have been invaluable and my capacity to love without condition, trust that the Universe is benevolent and act with minimal fear has been expanded beyond belief! My journey of self-discovery has involved lots of exploration ... many paths, lots of books, workshops, meetings, private conversations with trusted friends and mentors ... and much heartbreak. Most recently, my journey led me to Jack Canfield's work, which I am now using as a model for much of the work I do with both teens and adults. I am so excited about a new opportunity I have over the upcoming year to work with Jack directly. With Jack as my mentor and with access to his resources and his body of work, I will be polishing my skills, increasing my knowledge and expanding my capacity to serve in some big, new ways! Last year, this opportunity was only a pipe dream. Today it has become my exciting reality. My journey has not always been an easy one ... but it has been worth every step. How about you? Where are you in your journey of self-discovery? Where do you go to rest and rejuvenate? Who do you like to be with during those times? Who supports you without condition? What do you like to do? What are you passionate about? What's your heart's desire? How would you like to serve the world? What do you need to complete in order to move onward? And, of course, how can I help support you in realizing your dreams and sharing your light, love and message with the world? |
