Have at least one family dinner this week.
Too often we get caught up in the business of life we forget this simple, yet essential, “ritual” of sitting down together around the kitchen table. It doesn’t have to be a fancy meal -- the focus isn’t the food, it is your family. Engage in conversation and use this time to connect (or re-connect) with those you love. Please note: If family dinners have not been a regular occurrence in your family this may feel awkward at first. Lean into these feelings to work through them. As you put others at ease, you’ll find that this will quickly become a more comfortable & valued activity for all involved! A Year of Positive Action is shared with permission by Positivity Nation. Visit them at www.positivitynation.com and on Facebook for daily inspiration! John was in charge of the Ambassador Program at the ski resort I teach at in the winter. From the first day I met him about 12 years ago, John has always had a smile, a kind word, a helpful nature, a positive attitude and the willingness to do what needed to be done. He was the kind of person you aimed to please. You wanted him to like you and respect you. He was just like that!
John was diagnosed with a terminal illness and died last fall. We had a Celebration of Life in honor of John this weekend. The room was packed with people, each sharing their stories about how John had impacted their lives ... as husband, father, grandfather, friend, teacher, counselor, mentor, and coworker. Privately I recalled an email I had received from John just a few weeks before he died. In his short note, he commended me for the work I do with kids, said he was proud to know me and encouraged me to carry on. Kids need people like you, he said. Honestly, I never even knew he knew much about what I did when I was not teaching skiing. I can still feel how I felt the day I read John's email. It meant the world to me that he had even noticed. Even more that he had taken the time to communicate it to me. He was a Miracle Worker. He touched my life as well as touching the lives of so many in so many ways ... as evidenced by the sharing in the room on Saturday. On Sunday, I went to a play with a couple of teens I work pretty closely with. One, in particular, I have supported through some pretty difficult times, including the loss of her mother. The play we saw was the Miracle Worker. The story of Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan. A story that I had always loved in my childhood and still hold dear to my heart today. In the final scene, Annie finally unlocks language for Helen. So simple yet so profoundly powerful. Water ... Mother ... Father ... Teacher. The part of Helen was played with passion by one of my students ... an amazingly talented 7th grader. The director, producer and everyone involved were clearly passionate about their roles. The cast and crew obvously shared a connection that went well beyond merely working together. Each, in their own way, a Miracle Worker. MC and I walked back to our cars talking about the story of Helen Keller, the dedication of Annie Sullivan and the production we had just witnessed. In the parking lot as we said goodbye, MC put out her arms and hugged me like never before. She is truly a miracle. And I know I have helped her maintain balance and sanity through some tough times and supported her through some amazing growth. We didn't exchange any words ... just a simple heart to heart hug. John and I didn't ever engage in long conversations ... just a smile, a greeting or a handshake, and a few words every cold winter day at the mountain. Annie Sullivan unlocked Helen Keller's soul with one simple word. Love is like that. Miracles are like that too. Love and miracles are everywhere. As are Miracle Workers. Today, I am grateful for my Miracle Workers. I am grateful for the honor of being a Miracle Worker. And I am grateful for being open to the many opportunities that arise every day to answer the question, "What would love do now?" and to feel the answer in my heart. "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." ~ Helen Keller I hope you are enjoying the Transition On Purpose Blog as much as I enjoy writing it!

As a teen, I was a competitive athlete and depended on my coaches to help me improve specific skills, teach me the power of focus and support and inspire me to be the best I could be at whatever sport I was playing. In school, teachers and guidance counselors served as my academic coaches.
As an adult, I have worked with coaches who have helped me to improve my tennis and skiing skills, further develop my professional skills, sharpen my decision making skills, clarify my life purpose, set goals and develop and implement action and accountability plans.. Today, in addition to having a coach ... I am a coach. I provide 1:1 and group coaching opportunities to teens and adults in transition. For more information about coaching and the 5 reasons coaching works so well, read Jack Canfield's article at the link below.. Will you sign an organ donor card… donate blood… or join the bone marrow registry? Maybe you will volunteer for a crisis hotline, donate your time/talents to a battered women’s shelter, or support an anti-bullying campaign. We are all, in some way, capable of saving a life…what action will you take? A Year of Positive Action is shared with permission by Positivity Nation. I hope you will consider joining us in our beautiful Valley to spread the kindness wave! Yesterday I began a two week sex ed curriculum with a group of 120 high school students. I provide an abstinence-based comprehensive curriculum that provides medically accurate information to support healthy choices around sexual activitiy and relationships ... and life in general.
Since attending Jack Canfield's Breakthrough to Success and becoming an avid student of the Success Principles, I have revised my sex ed curriculum to incorporate a few key principles into my work. Yesterday I began with a discussion on Taking 100% Responsiblity for Your Life and E+R=O. Event plus Response equals Outcome, with the key point being that we can't control the events or the outcomes ... only the responses. Their homework assignment:: Find a partner. Share with your partner a part of your life (work, school, finances, relationships, etc) that you could be 10% more responsible for? What action could you take within the next 24 hours to be 10% more responsiblie? Go out and complete that action within the next 24 hours. As I have shared, I am fascinated by the power of the subconscious mind. I do a kinesiology demonstration to begin a discussion about self esteem, the power of our own throughs on ourselves and others along with peer pressure and influence Today we will use the scenarios in the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy Quiz as the jumping off point of our discussion. Tonight I begin teaching a 6 week course on the Success Principles to a group of adults. We'll also be talking about Taking 100% Responsiblity and the importance of accountability. I love doing what I do! And I so enjoy witnessing others who are also on the path to self discovery. But, before I head out, it's time to tend to my own success routine. First my gratitude list, which is mostly done here. Then a bit of visualization along with goal review. One more quiet cup of coffee as I listen to the birds waking up and enjoy the purr of the cat that insists on having her paw on my keyboard. Then my Rule of Five Action Plan for the day and off I go to see what magic lies in store. Oh, by the way, care to try the homework assignment? I am happy to be your accountability partner. Simply leave your comments below. Share a part of your life (work, school, finances, relationships, etc) that you could be 10% more responsible for? What action could you take within the next 24 hours to be 10% more responsiblie? Go out and complete that action within the next 24 hours and email me when you've completed your action. Accountability rocks ... which reminds me to add my accountability partner to my gratitude list today :) Are you feeling restless about your place in life? The thing I love most about teaching is learning! No matter who I'm presenting to and no matter what the topic, as I prepare, I learn ... and as I teach, I learn. Most recently, I taught a class titled Harnessing the Power of the Subconscious Mind. I found myself particularly drawn to the information I read about the Reticular Activating System in the brain and how it relates to the Law of Attraction and matching our biology with our environemnt! Also amazing was some of fhe research around the power of the heart. Our brain literally works to bring into focus what we think about, worry about, or dream about. Our heart, via the emotions we feel, puctuates our thoughts and activates the Reticular Activating System to bring us more of what we're thinking and feeling. If you find yourself noticing repeating patterns or cycles in your life that don't reflect the life you want to be living, most likely there's a subconscious belief fueling the Reticular Activating System to bring more of the same. The good news is you can reprogram the subconscious mind and change what the Reticular Activating System brings into focus for you. Contact me at [email protected] or 603-452-7350 to find out more! As Michael Dooley says, "Thoughts become things, so think the good ones!" The Reticular Activating System
Seek out and share good news.
It’s true, we don’t need to look far to find negative news stories in the media. I also believe it is true that there is a “good news” story in every community – even amidst natural disasters and difficult situations. So the challenge to you this week is to make a deliberate effort to find one of these stories --whether from your community or somewhere on the other side of the globe -- then share it! Post it on your facebook page, share it with your co-workers, your teen, your family. Ask them to do the same. This is a powerful way to spread the epidemic of positivity! Grateful to Positivity Nation for giving us permission to share. Visit them at www.positivitynation.com Also, don't forget Kindness Weekend in the beautiful Mount Washington Valley, NH. Visit www.kindnessweekend.com for details. Even if you can't join us, be sure to check out the website for what you can do to spread kind in your own place in the world! Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world." ~Joel Arthur Baker In life, we are often in action. Life is busy with raising children, work responsibilites, taking care of our homes, our bodies, our relationships. We can get so busy that we lose track of who we really are and what we're really here to do.Too often the activities of day to day life take up our time and distract us from our purpose. It is not uncommon for adults to find themselves restless, disconnected and less than satisfied with their day to day reality. Some of us have been fortunate enough to have received a gift I often call "the gift of desperation". The life event or experience that brings us to our knees where the big life questions exist and at a time when we have little choice but to reflect on the bigger questions while learning to accept our reality, explore our options and make necessary changes. Still others experience the pull toward their purpose as a dull ache or longing ... knowing that something is missing, but not quite sure how to find it ... continuing to fill up their time with endless responsibilities and taking action without a clear vision. So, what might next toward gaining clarity of purpose and vision? Here are a few suggestions: Lean Into It Jack Canfield's Success Principle #14 suggests simply "leaning into it". Leaning into it may mean simply allowing some quiet time to reflect on your passion, your purpose, your goals and dreams. As you connect on a deeper level, you will gain clarity and opportunities to take inspired action will begin to appear. Connect With Other Explorers The next step may involve connecting with people who are also exploring. Connecting with others who are on their own journey is a wonderful way to enjoy ours more fully. Having some company along the way makes the journey more fun, lifts our spirits, and provides us with new insights and perspectives to consider while refining our path. What I have learned through my own process is that when I take action the Universe, Source, Higher Power, God or whatever you want to call your belief helps you along the way in ways you could never have imagined. Invest in Yourself If you are ready to take action and "lean into it" I encourage you to consider investing in yourself and joining my upcoming class, The Success Principles: How to Get From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be. Based on Jack Canfield's work, this class will provide you with the latest information, a foundation of tools and techniques and solid support to begin your transformation toward living on purpose. Participants will be led through activities and experiences that will help them clarify their purpose and vision, set goals and develop action steps and empower the process of transformation. For more information, click on "Events" to the left or visit http://www.trishajacobson.com/events.html For many of us, changes are made one small step at a time. For some of us, small steps lead to bigger steps and then to huge leaps as faith and trust expand. There are others who jump right in. Go at your own pace and choose what resonates with you. It doesn't matter how you get there, but that you get there; "there" being unique to each of us! All that said here are some suggestions: If you're not local or you like to get your information in the comfort of your own home, computer or MP3 player and make changes over time, I highly recommend Jack Canfield's 30 day Success Principle's Audio Course. http://www.jackcanfield.com/cmd.php?Clk=3884192 If you're into immersion and want an amazing way to jumpstart your process, consider investing in Breakthrough to Success 7 daytransformational workshop.
