It's been awhile since I've posted to my blog. I got overwhelmed with the business of wrapping up the school year, running the clinic, another week of Train the Trainer with Jack Canfield in Newport Beach, another training trip to Los Angeles, book editing and publishing deadlines ... the list goes on and on. Before I knew it it was July and I realized that I had never stopped to take some time off. So when I was faced with the choice of more writing or some time to rest and rejuvenate, I choose to take some to be in that inbetween place ... that place of transition where intentional quiet and contemplation balanced with healthy outdoor activity seems to serve me well. I am lucky to live in a beautiful place, a vacation desitination for many, so it's easy to find beautiful places to relax, recreate and rejuvenate. Here's a photo log of where I've been ... from my desk trying to negotiate space with my furry friends Leah and Sylvester, to Newport Beach with Jack, to the clinic, hanging out with the loons on Crystal Lake, watching the sunset over the Bay, to hiking along the ridge line overlooking the Great Gulf Wilderness from the summit of Mount Washington or simply hanging out in the garden with Annie and Luna. It's been a nice summer so far, but it took me some time to remember to practice what I preach I implement Jack's time management system of focus days and planning days and fun days with nothing work related for a full 24 hours. I love this system, when I remember to use it. I love the sense of accomplishment, the personal freedom and the enhanced productivity it offers. This human experience is a never ending transformational journey that is never quite complete ... always learning, always growing, always remembering, always adjusting, always reprioritizing. My plan is to get back into the habit of posting on a regular basis and keeping you up to date on my latest projects, perspectives and pursuits. I hope you are enjoying your summer and remembering to take time out to have fun, rest, rejuvenate and reconnect to your passion, purpose and the essence of who you are! I spend alot of time online using social media for my work with teens and adults. The problem with that is how much time can easily be spent in ways that are not always productive ... following links, learning new information, listening to webinars, connecting with old friends on Facebook. Don't get me wrong, working with tech saavy teens has certainly connected me with amazing internet possibilities that I've used to my advantage, but I've had to work really hard to spend my online time wisely.
Yesterday I came across a link that struck deep down to the core of me. The picture was what first attracted me ... then the page name, tinybuddha... then the title of the featured article, Six Powerful Questions That Will Change Your Life Forever by James McWhinney. So I clicked ... and my life was changed. I couldn't help but post the link to my personal page on Facebook. The private messages of gratitude I got in my email box were astounding! In just hours, lives had been affected in huge ways ... across the country and around the world! So for those of you in transition, here you go. Or feel free to pass this post onto someone you know who might benefit. 1. What do I absolutely love in life? 2. What are my greatest accomplishments in life so far? 3. What would I stand for if I knew no one would judge me? 4. If my life had absolutely no limits and I could have it all and do whatever I wanted, what would I choose to have and what would I choose to do? 5. What would I do if I had one billion dollars? 6. Who do I admire most in the world? Feel free to leave comments below or email me privately with your insights, experiences and, of course, to explore how I can help you incorporate your answers into your life! In his famous story Oh, The Places You Will Go, Dr. Seuss called it The Waiting Place. In her song Between the No Longer and the Not Yet, Jana Stanfield describes it like this ... When we stand between the no longer and the not yet, Sometimes we falter when we forget, That the answers we can’t see wait patiently, Between the no longer and the not yet. ~Jana Stanfield Some of us simply describe it as feeling stuck. No matter how you express it, the feeling is the same in that in between place. I've discovered that the best thing for me to do during those times is a little intentional exploring around my purpose, my vision, my goals and the path I'm on. I've also discovered that doing with a coach gets me to results faster and with more fun! Thanks to the power of social media, email and cell phones, I've been getting daily updates, inspiration and golden nuggets from my friends and colleagues who are attending Breakthrough to Success with Jack Canfield.
It's amazing how the energy from BTS continues to live on in my heart and soul and in my daily life and how the transition and transformation toward living on purpose continues! Here's one of my favorite nuggets from one of Jack's Success Coaches, Sean Smith. He shares the wisdom found in the music of Jana Stanfield ... the official musician of BTS. She calls herself the Queen of Heavy Mental ... and for very good reason! I've adopted this song into my daily life as well as the work I do with both adults and teens: See Sean's BTS Golden Nugget here. In the meantime, don't get so busy that you forget to enjoy what's left of this beautiful summer! My mentor, Jack Canfield, taught me the importance of scheduling focus days, buffer days and fun days. Focus days are work days. Buffer days are planning days. Fun days are recreational days. Fun days, particularly in the summer, are my favorite. Jack defines fun days as days with no work at all scheduled from midnight to midnight ... only fun with family, friends or on your own doing what you love to do, where you love to do it ... whatever makes your heart happy and revitalizes you! My fun day starts tonight, when I'll be attending my 8 year old nephew's theatre camp performance, which will be followed by an ice cream cone and an overnight! Then I'm taking a few fun days in a row and heading up the coast of Maine with a dear friend ... most likely living on fresh lobster, corn on the cob and, of course, ice cream :) I am an advocate of coaching. As a teen, I was a competitive athlete and depended on my coaches to help me improve specific skills, teach me the power of focus and support and inspire me to be the best I could be at whatever sport I was playing. In school, teachers and guidance counselors served as my academic coaches.
As an adult, I have worked with coaches who have helped me to improve my tennis and skiing skills, further develop my professional skills, sharpen my decision making skills, clarify my life purpose, set goals and develop and implement action and accountability plans.. Today, in addition to having a coach ... I am a coach. I provide 1:1 and group coaching opportunities to teens and adults in transition. Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world." ~Joel Arthur Baker In life, we are often in action. Life is busy with raising children, work responsibilites, taking care of our homes, our bodies, our relationships. We can get so busy that we lose track of who we really are and what we're really here to do.Too often the activities of day to day life take up our time and distract us from our purpose. It is not uncommon for adults to find themselves restless, disconnected and less than satisfied with their day to day reality. Some of us have been fortunate enough to have received a gift I often call "the gift of desperation". The life event or experience that brings us to our knees where the big life questions exist and at a time when we have little choice but to reflect on the bigger questions while learning to accept our reality, explore our options and make necessary changes. Still others experience the pull toward their purpose as a dull ache or longing ... knowing that something is missing, but not quite sure how to find it ... continuing to fill up their time with endless responsibilities and taking action without a clear vision. So, what might next toward gaining clarity of purpose and vision? Here are a few suggestions: Lean Into It Jack Canfield's Success Principle #14 suggests simply "leaning into it". Leaning into it may mean simply allowing some quiet time to reflect on your passion, your purpose, your goals and dreams. As you connect on a deeper level, you will gain clarity and opportunities to take inspired action will begin to appear. Connect With Other Explorers The next step may involve connecting with people who are also exploring. Connecting with others who are on their own journey is a wonderful way to enjoy ours more fully. Having some company along the way makes the journey more fun, lifts our spirits, and provides us with new insights and perspectives to consider while refining our path. What I have learned through my own process is that when I take action the Universe, Source, Higher Power, God or whatever you want to call your belief helps you along the way in ways you could never have imagined. Invest in Yourself If you are ready to take action and "lean into it" I encourage you to consider investing in yourself and joining my upcoming class, The Success Principles: How to Get From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be. Based on Jack Canfield's work, this class will provide you with the latest information, a foundation of tools and techniques and solid support to begin your transformation toward living on purpose. Participants will be led through activities and experiences that will help them clarify their purpose and vision, set goals and develop action steps and empower the process of transformation. For more information, click on "Events" to the left or visit http://www.trishajacobson.com/events.html For many of us, changes are made one small step at a time. For some of us, small steps lead to bigger steps and then to huge leaps as faith and trust expand. There are others who jump right in. Go at your own pace and choose what resonates with you. It doesn't matter how you get there, but that you get there; "there" being unique to each of us! All that said here are some suggestions: If you're not local or you like to get your information in the comfort of your own home, computer or MP3 player and make changes over time, I highly recommend Jack Canfield's 30 day Success Principle's Audio Course. http://www.jackcanfield.com/cmd.php?Clk=3884192 If you're into immersion and want an amazing way to jumpstart your process, consider investing in Breakthrough to Success 7 daytransformational workshop. As I've shared, I spent over twenty years immersed in traditional health care as a practicing pharmacist and as an educational consultant to the health care industry. A major life transition caused me to do some soul searching, connect with spirituality and explore my belief systems for the purpsoe of breaking some cycles of behavior.
My life transition led me to the mountains of NH and to work that is more in line with my passion and purpose. Through my personal process as well as my work with others, I have witnessed the power of limiting beliefs and the impact those beliefs have on creating a person's reality. Today I am fascinated by some of the new research that is beginning to bridge the gap between science and spirituality that I am sure will change the practice of medicine as we know it. I find myself intrigued by the work of Bruce Lipton. His work challenges our understanding of genetics. He suggests that it is our cellular environment, our thinking and our belief that influences genetic expression. If we adopt child programming that tells us that a particular disease "is in our genes" that we will actually create disease. If we reprogram our subconscious mind to shift programmed beliefs, for example with hypnosis, our outcomes will be quite different. It's not just about disease ... it's about anything we believe to be true due to the subconscious programming we experienced in childhood. Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D., is an internationally recognized authority in bridging science and spirit, and a leading voice in new science field of Epigenetics. A cell biologist by training, he taught at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, and later conducted pioneering studies at Stanford University. Author of "The Biology of Belief and Spontaneous Evolution" and "The Biology of Belief", Dr. Lipton has been invited to speak on hundreds of TV and radio shows, and to appear as a keynote and workshop presenter at many national and international conferences. His most recent book, "Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future and a Way to Get There from Here", is available now. Bruce has a way of explaining things that is simple, profound and life changing. His work on The Biology of Belief is most interesting and impactful. You can look him up on youtube ... certainly worth checking out! If you can carve out an hour or so, I strongly suggest you listen to an amazing interview at the link below. It will only be available for a couple of days, however. http://www.theawareshow.com/inspire/lipton/ |
