What Trisha is Working On Now
Inspired by a year of major transition and deep reflection, as well as celebrating a milestone birthday, Trisha is currently working a series of teaching memoirs. Each volume will focus on one of her major life themes and will share stories, insights and activities to support the reader in developing skills, applying tools and living with deeper, more meaningful and heart-centered connections to themselves, others and life itself.
Her first volume, What I Learned from Other People's Kids that Parents (and Supportive Adults) Need to Know, is based on over twenty five years of teaching sexuality education in elementary, middle and high school classrooms, She'll be sharing her wisdom and guidance on what parents and youth services professionals need to know about the kids the live and work with and how they can best support young people through adolescence at a critical time in history, when our country is losing touch with how to best support young people in becoming healthy, empowered and responsible adults.
This book will most likely be accompanied by a What Kids Want to Know About Sex volume of questions and answers, inspired by the sale of Trisha's retreat center. Trisha was sorting through boxes that she had stored in the the barn where she has lived for over 10 years. In the process, she found a large gray plastic tote box filled with questions written on 3 x 5 index cards. In her 25 years of teaching sex ed, Trisha always brought an anonymous question box to class and distributed cards to her students so they could write down any questions they had on their mind about growth and development, sexuality, relationships, etc. She literally saved every question in that plastic tote that is now filled to the brim. This box contains a treasure trove of insight into what kids want to know about sex and growing up. It will serve as the foundation of the question and answer book or website she plans to publish to help parents deal with this sometimes awkward and difficult topic.
